Vilas High School Alumni Association
Meeting Minutes - June 23, 2018

The 65th Vilas Alumni gathering was held on June 23rd, 2018 at the Alstead Town Hall. Our evening began with a huge potluck supper which was enjoyed by all. All alumni are excellent cooks.

At 7:00 pm, our President, Martha Fletcher, called the meeting to order.   She read the list of recently deceased alumni (18), and a moment of silence was observed.

The Secretary's and Treasurer's reports were placed on the taables for review and approval. The Secretary's and Treasurer's report were unanimously approved by all.

Bruce Bellows spoke on the Scholarship Trust Fund.  Since placing our funds in the Alstead Trustee of Trust Funds account, we earned approximately $800 in interest for the 2017-2018 period. He stated that with this kind of interest and level of donations, the fund is good for another 25 years.  Many thanks to the family of Harvey Bascom for their generous donation of $1000.

The class of 1958 will be holding their 60th reunion in July.  Also, the class of 1964 will be holding their 55th reunion in June of 2018.

The Roll Call was taken with 30 alumni present. This was one of our smallest gatherings.  Maybe it was just a busy Saturday?  The Class of 1964 had 7 members present.

Judi Bellows and Linda Christie announced the scholarship recipients for 2018; Sara Marsden, who is pursuing a degree at UNH as a physicians assistant, and Mason Leonard who is studying fashion design at the University of Massachusetts..

Margaret Bost, our membership nominating committee chairperson, presented the slate of officers for the comming year, 2019; President Sally (Westcott) Mosher Class of 1966,, First Vice President Jim Fassett, Class of 1960, Second Vice President Ella (Knight) Brown, Class of 1959, Secretary Barbara Porter and Treasurer Bruce Bellows. The vote was unanimous.

Our raffle during the meeting netted the Scholarship Fund $137.00.  Many great prizes were donated and the Alumni Association sincerely THANKS all the area businesses and individuals who helped make our fund raising efforts a success.

There was no old business presented for discussion. Gordon Gowen spoke about the future of the association and pointed out that we have fewer than 50% of all alumni still living.  He pointed out that we are "all getting older", and questioned if gatherings would even be possible in 20 years.  There were no comments from the floor. Alvin Clark asked if the Scholarship Committee ever receives any "thank you" notes from recipients, and was assured that we do.  They will bring some to read at the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm. with JoAnne Stevens leading us in sinding our school song.

Thank you all for helping with clean up.

Until we meet again

Respectfully Submitted

Barbara Porter, Secretary
